Kwerk is an independent London-based label owned by Geoff Wilkinson of hip-hop jazz outfit Us3.
The latest release is by gorgeous jazzy nu-soul singer/songwriter Rachael Calladine, whose album “Life, Love & Gossip” is out now. Click on the sleeve image above for more details.
Previous releases on Kwerk include a wicked compilation of underground jazzy hip-hop from some of the USA’s finest names in rap (and some new discoveries you’ll want to make). “Hip Hop Love Jazz” was compiled by DJ/manager/hip-hop fixer Nicci Cheeks and contains 15 gorgeous jazzy hip hop cuts that will take you back to the early 90s when jazz & hip hop first climbed into bed together…
The underground scene is represented in force by the might of J Rawls, Wordsworth & El Da Sensei, while the new skool is firmly to the fore in the shape of Jazzy Jeff collaborator Kev Brown & the first solo joints from Hanif Jamiyl and Roddy Rod of underground favourites Maspyke. Original Black-Eyed Peas vocalist Kim Hill and NY’s The Underdog provide some beautifully bare jazzy soul too. The West Coast is represented with exclusives from LA crew The Procussions, Dent, and Gray Matter. Legendary NY hip hop engineer Dave Dar (who has recorded & mixed De La Soul, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Common, etc) steps out for a world exclusive, and with skits from NY DJ Bobbito, Cut Chemist, and Nicci herself, the album is complete. Click on the sleeve above for more details.
The first album release on kwerk was a collaborative venture between Geoff and saxophonist Ed Jones called ed/ge. “A View From The ed/ge” is a melting pot of swinging big band horn arrangements underpinned by a range of futuristic rhythms from crunching hip-hop through broken beats in different time signatures to drum & bass. Click on the sleeve & check it out.
All of the albums are available for the bargain price of £9.99 (which includes postage & packing worldwide). Simply click the PayPal button on the relevant album page.
